Wow, what a perilous moment to capture on camera! This image shows how hard it is for birds to successfully raise young, but on the other hand, the hawk is probably feeding young of its own. This looks like a Cooper’s Hawk to me.
I think you are right. The Eurasian Collared doves have another set of two doing well, I expect them to fly in another 4 or 5 days. I actually have a video of the Hawk grabbing the chick and flying away. It can be shared as a text message if anyone is interested.
