Birds open their mouths to stay cool it’s like panting for a dog.
Yes, it was brutally hot this past week and Mama Robin was sitting with her mouth open all day. Her nest is in a spot where the sun shines on her all afternoon, poor girl.
Same here, it is very hot here most days in the 100s so the birds have their mouths open a lot.
Poor mama robin. It’s been brutal here too, over 100 on some days and above 90 every day! The Northern Cardinal nest I’m monitoring is luckily shaded the whole day, which makes me feel better.
Even the mockingbirds are panting here. It’s hot even for them.
