Description

Ive had my Canon Powershot SX720 HS for about two years now. I originally bought this camera for its portable and lightweight features. There were some downsides though.
1: It did not/ does not come with zoom lenses. For a birder this can be tricky, especially when trying to take far away shots.
2: It does not have clear focus.

I would like my next choice to be lightweight, portable, have clear focus, to come with zoom lenses, and overall be in a price range of about $300- $500.

Hi Kylie, I hope you are doing well. You seem to be a pretty good photographer. After being a birder for many years, I have found one of the best cameras for the job. It is actually an older model, but is small and lightweight with a good zoom. I never have had to use attachable zoom lenses, the zoom on this camera is perfect for me. I have a Canon Power Shot SX50. I hope this helps!

I have the Canon SX50 and its brilliant for bird pics. Lightweight, potent zoom and no need for lenses. Just not good for flying birds, tho it can be done. My next camera will be the Nikon NP950.

    HI Kylie,
I just purchased the Panasonic DC-FZ80 60x zoom ( off amazon). Once we figured it out it’s pretty easy to use. The battery charges inside the camera and I think it takes decent pics.
I happy with it ~ It’s around $300. I’m a novice birder and picture taker.

Alright. I want to first thank ya’ll for your suggestions. I believe that everyone has their own opinion and I want to take advice from birders who share the passion all around. Birding has been a passion of mine for a long time now and I want to share it with others, introducing them into the beauty of nature and its inhabitants.
I have finally got a new camera. It’s the next step for an intermediate birder like myself, and it seems to take pretty good pics. Its a Canon EOS Rebel SL1 with a 75 to 300mm zoom lens. It’s somewhat lightweight, compared to the size of the actual camera. Has a clear focus. And a very good zoom capability. For a more advanced birder whose looking to take more clear shots of birds in my area, this camera seems to be perfect for me. I also have a smaller zoom lens, 18 to 55mm macro lens. That’s more for my other wildlife photography. So far, I love this camera and hope to take some really cool shots in the future.
Again, I want to thank ya’ll who offered their advice and recommendations. Good luck birding and don’t forget to share the passion!
