Description

17-May-14, Eastern Bluebird, Day 19, a little peek at one of the fledglings when it was thinking of taking that leap of faith from the nestbox. This makes ten (10) fledglings from the first two (2) nests this year so far!

Surprised that bluebird & cardinal boxes are not included in those recommended for NE La … we have lotsa cardinals & bluebirds need helpl.

    Hi Ed,
Cardinals do not nest in boxes. They build an open-cup nest in a shrub, small tree, or vine tangle. You can certainly put up a bluebird box in NE LA, as bluebirds will nest in nest boxes. But I recommend putting one in an open area, because bluebirds are most attracted to grassland/savanna habitat types.
    Cheers,
    Robyn
