This may be a silly question, but did you remove the four old eggs? I just know that if not, they’ll start to smell. Attracting predators. If so,I apologize! Only trying to be of help. ? Good luck and please update us! God bless you.

WHEN SHOULD U CLEAN OUT THE BIRD HOUSE OF A EASTERN BLUE BIRD WHEN THE CHICKS ARE GONE?

    • Holly Faulkner, Project Assistant says:

Hi John, You can clean the nest out after you’re sure the brood has fledged, or you can wait until the end of the season. Bluebirds will re-nest in boxes that have an older nest in them, but are just as happy to build another. We recommend cleaning out between broods if the nest is particularly soiled in fecal matter, just make sure there is no breeding activity at the nest when you do so. If you’re ever unsure whether a nest is actively being used or not, it’s best to wait to clean it out until you are sure.
