    Hi Paula, this is a Downy Woodpecker. Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers are hard to tell apart, but this webpage from FeederWatch may help you spot the differences easier. Your bird in particular has a short bill compared to the length of the head and spotted undertail feathers which both point to a Downy Woodpecker.
