House Sparrow Nest In My Hanging Basket On The Porch

Taken today (7/21/2014) - three House Sparrow eggs laid in the fern hanging on our front porch. One of the adults lost its tail (?) but is still feeding/caring for young just fine.

I have a similar situation – every year house sparrows build a nest in one of the hanging baskets outside my door. Any every year it’s a challenge to water the flowers – because if I can’t water the flowers, the nest would be exposed. Today for the first time, the slight jostle to the basket startled one of the chicks and it jumped out. I was able to put it back, and the parents are still bringing it insects, so perhaps it will survive.
