Texas Bird Family
Villages Of Bear Creek, TX, USA
Here are the hummingbirds that visited yesterday. We also saw a male and female black-chinned hummingbird. (Not at the feeder) Also. the shimmery part of a male hummingbird’s throat is called a gorget.
Species: Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Why do I never see male Ruby throats?I see females all the time.Besides that, I like the names
You might not be seeing males because maybe they migrated already. The males migrate before the females.
Great pictures.
Cute! I like Rufous.
Thank you! I make homemade nectar. I use a plastic water bottle and mix about a quarter cup of white sugar (Don’t use any other sugar or sweeter as it will kill hummingbirds) and fill the rest of the bottle with water. Shake until the sugar dissolves and pour into the feeder.
I’ve been trying for months to get hummingbirds and moving the feeder from location to location. I put it near the window so I can always see the hummers. They are fun to watch.
Same. Although I use 1/2 a cup of water, and 1/8 a cup of sugar. I put the water in the microwave until it starts to boil and then I put the sugar in and stir it until it dissolves. Then I wait until it cools down and put it in the feeder!
Maybe try putting the feeder out earlier next year.
Hummers ~ mini marvels of nature ~ enjoy them! I hope mine stick around for another month.
Nice to see a rufous.
I got the hummingbird feeder in June. I’m going to put it out in March next year.
I got it for $4 of Walmart.
We now have like 10 hummingbirds visiting. Sometimes there are a few at once and they chase each other away, maybe we need two feeders.
Don’t put it down until maybe mid-september.
I’m supposed to keep it up until October. Maybe all year.
Yeah, or you could put some flowers around the feeder.
Jeff Gorget has turned into a feeder bully! He’s chasing all the other hummers away! I think we need two feeders. He’s come like 20 times so far today. He’s so mean.
Yeah, we had Petey but for whatever reason, now a female uses his perches. She isn’t as much as a feeder bully as him but she sometimes will chase away other hummers. I think Petey might have migrated or something.
Also, you should take down your feeder about 2 weeks after you see the last hummingbird at your feeder.
