Description

I almost drowned these 3 babies while trying to water my hanging plant yesterday. Fortunately mama bird attacked me before I poured the entire contents of my watering can. I believe it’s a chickadee or possibly a whiskey jack as it has an all black neck.

Can you believe the intricacy of this nest built amongst dense hanging basket foliage –check out the twine wrapped twice around the nest!

Wow, you should always take care with hanging baskets, and if you want to keep your plants alive take VERY special care while watering, when the parents aren’t around of course. They are most likely chickadees, it would never make sense if a whiskey jack even attempted to nest in a basket. They like very high altitudes in evergreens. And besides whiskey jacks are much much bigger than a chickadee. I’ve never seen a whiskey jack fledgling but that looks suspiciously like a tiny songbird’s.
