It looks like it could be a green heron… but I’m not sure. Go to: http://www.allaboutbirds.org
And hit either the button that says “get instant ID help” or the button that says “try Merlin.”

It is a heron. I was bit scared by the looks of the bird. As it rained… it was puffy and wasnt moving a bit. We have a barn swallow nest in my patio.. so got scared wat if the heron comes and attack the nest. 🙂
Hi all, This bird is in the heron/bittern family. It is definitely either a Green Heron or Least Bittern – but note that Least Bitterns are very small – only about 11-14 inches long. Green Herons are larger, about 16-18 inches long. It’s hard to tell size from this image, but imagine a Least Bittern is between the size of a robin and a crow, and Green Herons are the size of a large crow.
Since the bird is more puffy, its difficult to know the size of it.
My area, we have various species of birds.. When i entered the details of bird in the webiste,it showed as heron.

Yes, I think it is a Green Heron:

Possibly a Wood Duck:

But I think Green Heron. If it is a Green Heron, an uncommon bird was sitting by your house all day! That’s pretty exciting…

Actually, I think that is a Least Bittern. And I’m sure it won’t attack the swallow’s nest. Check out these links:
