Just found a nest in one of the planter boxed on our deck railing. Can see 5 little eggs. Now the challenge is how to water the planter without disturbing the nest.
Hi Barbara, we generally don’t recommend watering planters that have bird nests in them – water poured on top of the soil can easily get into the nest and affect the temperature or breathability of the eggs and/or young. That being said, there are devices that are built to deliver water directly to the roots. A popular kind is glass and globular at one end with a long thin tube that sticks into the dirt – it can be filled with water and stuck into the soil so that the end of the tube delivers water directly to the plant roots. This can help water your plants and still keep the birds nest safe.
