Description

This little girl slammed into my shed wall! Poor thing! I’m very certain this is a Ruby-crowned Kinglet but I wanted to post it with question just to make sure before I add it to my Life List…

  1. Micah Grove says:

Acadian Flycatcher or Yellow-bellied Flycatcher. Here is MEASUREMENTS for Acadian Flycatcher
    Both Sexes
    Length: 5.5-5.9 in (14-15 cm)
    Weight: 0.4-0.5 oz (11.1-13.9 g)
    Wingspan: 8.7-9.1 in (22-23 cm)
    (This info is from allaboutbirds)
I am 100% sure that this is not a Kinglet. Why because this bird has two wing bars and Kinglets have one, also the top bill is curved over the under bill. If that makes any sense.

  2. Micah Grove says:

Also measure the bird. Kinglets are way smaller then Flycatchers, the info is coming from allaboutbirds: ID Info then scroll down to to see sizes and other information.

    Did it die?

  4. Owls3.0 says:

Yes I found it newly dead and it is relatively the size of a Black-capped Chickadee… I think it is the Yellow-bellied Flycatcher.

  5. Owls3.0 says:

Never mind! The Yellow-bellied Flycatcher doesn’t have a slightly curved beak but the Acadian does! I have confirmed it to be the Acadian. Thanks for the help Micah!!!
