Description

Last of the HF fledgings still hanging in..not quite ready yet…perhaps tomorrow. Poor little guy looks kind of forlorn all alone. I did see mama drop by at least once to feed him. 4-30-23

    Has he fledged now?

  2. Paula says:

Not yet..and the parents are making multiple trips this am…feeding, coaxing etc. He looks very healthy…just unsure of himself! 5-1-23

Are his eyes ok? Could he have Finch Eye disease and not be able to see so he can’t fledge?

      • Paula says:

HIs eyes are ok..just closed..no disease that I can see. Looking back through my pics only two survived. There were five eggs. don’t know what happened with the other three eggs…infertile?. I did note I thought the two survivors were more more scrawny than previous hatchlings. None of the adult House finches show any sign of disease..thank goodness. The last fledging is still in the nest preening…fluttering…eating …sleeping! All previous broods of HF’s were successful…no issues.

He finally fledged while we were out. I ‘m going to post a new photo of the new nest with an egg that was being built in the same wreath while the two fledgings were still in the upper nest!
