I discovered a similar nest in late May 2024 in Boerne TX in our crepe myrtle tree in front of our long front porch. We left them alone and didn’t sit out on the porch except to water the porch plants. The mother watched my every move. One time I got close to the railing and she flew off so I let her be. I never got close again. We watched them from the inside through a window. It was difficult to see but saw her when nesting sitting still as a stone. A couple of weeks later I saw her fly in with a big worm. I could barely see their beaks. Finally one time I got to see one stretch its neck and I could see bright red markings down from its neck to its chest. A few days later they were gone. A birdwatcher friend took pics of the empty nest.
