Just Fledged Cooper’s Hawk

A Cooper’s hawk has been nested in my neighborhood for 2 years. One day, I was photographing in my backyard when I heard the immature hawk calling its parent. I grabbed my camera gear and found him around the corner perched in my neighbor’s pine tree.

The first flight is the hardest…..Cooper’s Hawk reluctant to leave the tree

Nothing has changed our home habitat as much as having a pair of Cooper’s Hawk build a nest and raise their young within our habitat. It’s day three in this photo of the only young I have seen in this nest considering taking it’s first flight. First it was jump all over the nest. Then it was the first tentative jumps to close by branches with a great deal of reward preening going on. Now it is up and down the tree with mom still serving breakfast in bed. Any moment now it will finally take that first flight.
