Cutest Baby Deer

We saw 3 families of Killdeer. The first family had 2 chicks, the second (shown in photos) had 3 chicks, and the third had 1 chick. We watched the 2nd family as they were within feet of us. Two of the chicks behaved, staying together and listening to Mrs. Deer, the other was with Mr. Deer. This chick wouldn’t come over even when Mrs. Deer yelled at him. He came over after lots of yelling from Mrs. Deer but took a lot longer than he needed to. I wonder where these three nests were. We only found two.

Crowd of baby bluebirds

This is a photo of one of the batches of Eastern bluebirds that successfully fledged from one of our bluebird nesting boxes. We provide live meal-worms in a special feeder. The parent birds quickly (usually) find the feeder and make good use of it. Their frequent flights to and from the feeder back to the nest box provide beautiful flashes of color as they struggle to keep up with the ever-hungry chicks. We are convinced that at least a few of these chicks have hung around, knowing that there is a good supply of food both natural and feeder-based.

What kind of chicks are these?

My dad took me to the Kentucky castle’s farm yesterday, and we found four active nests.

How many chicks do you see?

This photo was taken for my American Robin nest attempt. Today is the first day I figured out how to see inside a nest that was so high up in a tree with no branches: buy an extension pole that’s long enough, attach a camera to the end, start the video, lift it above the nest and angle it so that it can record what’s inside, lower it back down to the ground, stop the video, then watch it and see what you see.

Ready to fledge Tufted Titmouse chicks

This brood of 8 Tufted Titmice chicks fledged over several days. The first 2 fledged on 05/22, the second 2 fledged the next day, and by 05/24 it looked like the tired parents were going to push the last 4 out of the nest!
