Become a NestWatch Chapter

NestWatch Chapters are hosted by nature centers, parks, wildlife refuges, zoos, and other nature-minded organizations all across the world. These groups help recruit and train NestWatchers in their local communities while using NestWatch to monitor nesting birds as part of their organizations’ mission.

As a NestWatch Chapter, you can:

  • Monitor birds on any property you have permission to access
  • Store and manage your group’s data using NestWatch
  • Access your current and previous data at any time
  • Download volunteer training and advertising templates provided by NestWatch
  • Join a private listserv for discussion with other coordinators
  • Contribute to a global nest-monitoring program

As a NestWatch Chapter coordinator, you get to decide what activities you want to pursue. Some common things others do include: promote NestWatch at their site or at local events, host training workshops or demonstrations on how to NestWatch, and coordinate the activities of local volunteers, including serving as point person for data entry questions. People in your group could participate on their own, work together to report data on nests/boxes, or even get together as a discussion group—it’s up to you. Because everyone is using the same protocol, your nesting data are directly comparable to data collected by chapters in other locations!
