I included visits from more than one nest in my data table. How do I move some visits to a separate attempt?
NestWatch requires participants to record data nest-by-nest. That is, each nest attempt should report on only one clutch of eggs, from laying through to the end of the nest (whether it is a successful fledging or otherwise).
If you accidentally included nest visit data from more than one clutch of eggs in the same nest attempt, don’t worry! We have a tool that can help.
First, navigate to the My Nests page on the NestWatch website. Then:
- Click open your Nest Site List and find the nest site you want to edit, and click Edit Attempt. Alternatively, click the relevant marker on your Nest Site Map.
- On the nest attempt page, look for a button below the data table that says “I need to move some of these visits to a new nesting attempt.” Click this button, and then you should see a series of checkboxes appear, one next to each row of data.
- Check off all of the visits that belong to the first clutch of eggs, and then click “Move these visits.”
- You should now see another nest attempt appear lower down on the page with these visits included as well as any photos that were attached to those visit dates.
- Report the species that laid these eggs and any other fields you’d like to edit, and then click “Summarize this nesting attempt” at the bottom of the browser screen.
- Fill out the Summary information for this first nest, and click “End nesting attempt” at the bottom of the browser screen.
- Now, if you scroll up, you should see only the visit data that you had recorded for your second clutch of eggs. Continue entering data as normal for this clutch, or use the Summarize button if the nest attempt is complete so that you can report on the nest outcome.
Now, you should have two separate nest attempts containing data from each nest.
