We think it was a sparrow. The hawk was bigger than a Blue Jay. In the Birds of North America Eastern region book the hawk seemed to fit the description of a Sharpie ~ esp how it caught and handled it’s prey. I also thought it might be a female as they can be larger. I’m just a novice bird watcher..just my best guess. At any rate a beautiful hawk.
I saw your other post. This is 100% Cooper’s Hawk. Sharp-shinned are tiny. About the size of a dove. Sharpies are also very dark orange. This is Cooper’s due to size and color. Great find!
