About a week ago, I was watching the birds flock to my feeder. I was distracted by all the other birds, so for ONCE I was not thinking about hummingbirds. Then, all of the sudden, a tiny blur of green darts into the chaos. I was startled, so it took me a second to comprehend what it was. Then it stopped for a few short seconds, and hovered. I saw it’s red throat. Oh my gosh! I thought. It’s a hummingbird! He dipped his bill into the feeder for about 2 seconds, then quickly flew away. I haven’t seen any since. Hummers are my favorite bird, so knowing they’re in the area and then not seeing anymore is frustrating! Has anyone else seen any in Kentucky or have any tips on attracting them? Please help me! I’m dying here! 🙏🏼😩
I know… I need to give it time. But it is absolutely driving me insane! Birding and birdwatching is about the only thing I can do right now with our remote missing, it raining outside, and us being stuck inside the house all the time, and I LOVE hummingbirds. And I hate not knowing things! Like why they aren’t coming
My sister claims she just saw another one… but with her, you can’t be sure.
I’m sure your sister saw one, very easy to ID hummers. Sounds like your also bored. What is the average time you start seeing hummers? They could be late because of weather during migrations north. BTW you need to change your email profile photo then use that email to comment here.
Well, I’m not sure. This is only the second year I’ve put up feeders, and last year we put it out so late and the feeder was so far away from the house. I just saw a male a few days ago, but haven’t seen any since. I looked up some websites and it says that they typically arrive mid-April and are all gone by September.
Here is a really great website to help attract hummers to your yard.

There are plenty of other things you can to help attract them if the feeder doesn’t work. Also, it will take time for them figure out that it is a reliable source and start to depend on it as a main food source. I hope something works for you!
PS. the reason I can’t be sure my sister saw one, is because she makes up crazy bird stories all the time just to see my reaction. 🙄 And YES. I’m VERY VERY VERY bored.
We moved our hummingbird feeder from the back (in the open near other bird feeders) to the front of our tree. Any ideas why they arent coming? There supposed to be here till October but I haven’t seen any all year.
