Woodpecker duo 11-24-23
Looks like a Downy and a Hairy Woodpecker.
The top one is for sure a Hairy. I can’t quite tell which one the bottom woodpecker is.
The Hairy and Downy visit almost daily. A Plileated and a Red-bellied visit also. Thanks for your input Caleb!
Normally we have visits from the downy but sometimes the hairy.
I think these are both female Downy Woodpeckers (same size, shorter beak than head). https://academy.allaboutbirds.org/downy-and-hairy-woodpeckers/
Zachary, do you watch the cams on all about birds? I like the Cornell cam when the downy and hairy come next to each other. Thank you for the link!
Not often. Whenever I do there is not many birds on cam. We have 6 feeders (Suet, Sunflower, Mix) up this year and I have only seen blue jays, chickadees, and juncos.
Great! I like the Ontario FeederWatch cam. The Evening grosbeaks and the Redpolls can have a large group at the feeder.
We usually see the redpolls and the purple finches later in the winter season.
