In 1947, Weston said: “The male usually follows her while she is gathering nesting material and he may accompany her to the general vicinity of the nest; however, I have never seen a male carry nesting material nor in any way aid in the actual construction of the nest.” Well, Mr. Weston – boom shakalaka!

Indeed, Birds of North America Online has this to say on the subject: “Female does virtually all building. Weston (1947) never observed males carrying nesting material; others report rare instances of males carrying nesting material (Ritchison 1983).”
You have seen a handsome bird do something rare! Was it carrying much material to the nest, or was it just pretending to help for show?
Hi Robyn,
It did indeed carry other material to the nesting site. I could not record this as the available light shifted so that shutter speed became nominal.

Michael
