I too found a junco nst in the fuschia basket! However, it was abondoned when we trimmed the plants for the year (and thus discovered the nest). We usually find these small nesta nestled in the arborvidae along the chicken wire fence.
Just found out the birds have hatched 4 little Dark-Eyed Juncos in the gutter under an eave by my front door. I’m thrilled because I started to remove it and realized there were babies in there and the mom keeps returning to feed them. So glad, Florence Oregon.
Just found a nest in one of the planter boxed on our deck railing. Can see 5 little eggs. Now the challenge is how to water the planter without disturbing the nest.
Hi Barbara, we generally don’t recommend watering planters that have bird nests in them – water poured on top of the soil can easily get into the nest and affect the temperature or breathability of the eggs and/or young. That being said, there are devices that are built to deliver water directly to the roots. A popular kind is glass and globular at one end with a long thin tube that sticks into the dirt – it can be filled with water and stuck into the soil so that the end of the tube delivers water directly to the plant roots. This can help water your plants and still keep the birds nest safe.
Junko built nest in my Irish ivy pot, in my courtyd in late june. 5 Eggs laid in mid July, now i see a nest of downy dark feathers, but no movement, and no sound. It was 100° here on 26Jul, will be again today. very concerned about the hatchlings.
the last 2 years I’ve had some bird or squirrel eating the eggs or actually taking the baby birds out of the nest. It has been heartbreaking. I planted up my hanging baskets later this year hoping they would go elsewhere but NOPE they are back just like clockwork. I have 4 junco eggs in a hanging basket. any suggestion would be apprecitated. I do have an outdoor camera posted above the nest to try to catch what is doing it but I’d rather not see but I want it to stop also.

A family has just built a nest in the rafters underneath our deck. We’re able to glimpse 4 little eggs through the slats.
