our new resident
This is a Killdeer nest I stumbled upon while walking my dog.
Three swallows taking turns in the opening waiting for a meal.
This was the morning of the day they fledged. I was away
at the time and missed it. When I got home they were gone.
2 healthy, hungry, beautiful baby bluebirds.
I am looking for help in identifying the eggs in this nest box.
After worry that predators have taken eggs and young from this nest, it is great to see the remaining chick in great condition and growing feathers. The parent chattered nearby the whole time we visited.
taking out the trash
We have 2 mourning doves nesting right now one in front and one in the back yard. I have perfect view of the hanging pot of petunias thus we named this one Petunia’s nest 🙂
There is now only one chick in the birdhouse. No evidence why the chick and egg from three days ago are gone.
First picture was from March 2015 Ma Ma Carolina Wren waiting for her eggs to hatch, and tne second picture are her 4 babies that took flight in April 2015. This is my second nestwatch, but the 8th brood I have observed.
The Wrens should fledge soon!
Discovered this nest on top of one from last year. Despite the noise from our busy street, robins and mourning doves seem to find our porch columns perfect nesting sites. This couple is obviously quite prolific. Able to observe them occasionally by peaking through the tiniest bit of open curtain. Very attentive. We use the other door during this season so we don’t disturb them. Hopefully, all the eggs will hatch and all the chicks will fledge.
Nest is in a nest box in suburban neighborhood

As a parent sang beautifully, we approached our backyard birdhouse for the third visit. A second little one has hatched, we discovered as the parent’s song switched to angry chatter. We left the pin oak tree with our photos and our smiles, and the wren’s song returned.
I bought an old bird to the side of my house to clean it up but before I could get to it, this bird had built a nest and laid 3 eggs in it and about 2 weeks later she laid one more.Well only 2 of the eggs have hatched, will the other 2 hatch or not?
This little guy is nesting in a tube on a Gun range (Trap range actually) in Bridgeport, NY,
right on the edge of the NYS management area known as Cicero Swamp.
We didn’t disturb him too much, but it looks like
eggs may be inside, because two of them are guarding the tube.
We think he’s a Tree Swallow? but we’re not pros.
This little bird must be an NRA Member, and was eating insects so he’s ok with us. 🙂
The noise must not bother the birds? Its an active range.
I always see lots of cool, out of the ordinary birds at this range, this is the first one we photographed.
This is one of a pair of house wrens that are nesting in the house we put up.

One of our nestwatch eggs has hatched into a tiny wren. Welcome to the world!
Creative nesting site.
This dove nest is located in a hanging pot of petunia’s on our front porch, next to the kitchen window. We can see daily the activity, and have a good view of her.
Primitive wood birdhouse hanging in pin oak tree, lowest branch, 3.5 feet from ground. Eggs were discovered and photographed 06/12/2015.
5 Bluebird chicks.
Now I can hear them when parents arrive with food (from approximately 40ft)
The House Wren eggs in birdhouse have hatched! 😀 The babies are so small!
I was lucky enough to get this shot of a Summer Tanager on our back deck. I have never seen one so this was a lovely treat!
Photo to go with my nest watch data.
Observing a Black Chinned Hummingbird nest since the nest was built.
Observed on driveway this morning, not under any nests.
Phoebe nestlings in a shelf nestbox.
One down covered nestling is nearly hidden by a bigger sibling.
I kept seeing a wren fly off my porch, but I couldn’t see the nest. My dog was sniffing the boot and my husband pulled it off the rack to look inside. Sure enough, there was the nest. I moved a big bowl and some dog leashes to take the picture and then replaced them. I guess I won’t bother taking the boots in to be resoled. They’ve already been re-purposed.
Mourning doves made a nest in a flower basket hung on the railing of my front porch.
Four chicks present. Fith egg unhatched
All day male and female bring food to at least two chicks in this nest box. It is about 10 feet in front of my kitchen window.
Green heron young demanding to be fed.
It is early June and a House Sparrow decided to build a nest in the base of a seed cylinder, with a dove-deterring cage. It does of course present a dilemma for the bird watching property owner.
nest in hanging basket on front porch
The forth one fell out without notice because of Cowbird’s big size. But the others chicks are almost as big as the Cowbird chick.
A series of pictures from a Mockingbird nest in my backyard
I do wish the other chicks would at least get the same attention as the big cowbird chick. Cute photo though!
5 bluebird eggs, first egg laid 5/20/15 – last on 5/25/15.

Mourning Dove with 2 chicks (about 10 days old). Little one on the right poses for the camera, while the sibling on the left turned around and is only showing its tail and wings.
The biggest chick fledged this morning at 8:45 am. The smaller chick has the nest to himself tonight.
Cow skull has been made into a nest bring new meaning to the phrase ” Bird Brain”
Feathers are emerging. Down on their heads?
Now I have three chicks that have hatched, I don’t know if any of them are cowbird.
Eastern Bluebird just outside of nest box in overhanging branches.
The largest chick is sitting on the rim of the nest and using his wings. While his wings seem to work well, he still has a short, stubby tail. He/she should be ready to fledge soon.
This is today’s picture of the nest in the brown-headed nuthatch box. Not sure what the bird is that is sitting up top… it does not look like the others.
On saturday or sunday, two of Caroline and Chip’s eggs hatched.
KKilideer protecting her 4 light blue speckled eggs.
Located in a business parking lot in the city~ nest was near the sidewalk under the landscaping hedges. The nest is simply a “depression” in the ground, lined only with the surrounding mulch material. The eggs camouflaged well with the near by stones. Mom tolerated my pictures well but was quick to let me know if I came too close!
Beak & Butt… the little hummingbirds are getting bigger. Estimate they are 16-17 days old.
This is my 5 nest check, all the eggs are still intact. No sign of Cowbird activity.
Our first successful clutch of the season. Monmouth County Parks has been kind enough to allow us to maintain 40 boxes at Dorbrook Park.
Taken quickly while mom was feeding.
This little guy fell out of his nest. He’s been doing great though. His parents found him and they are still feeding him. He hasn’t flown yet though.
A week away from fledging. Sweetest babies growing so fast.
In the past two days, the activity has changed from lots of nest sitting to more perching in the fern near the nest, and lots of insect catching (thank you) by the mockingbird pair.
5 House Wren eggs.
Mockingbird nest in the rosebush. about 2 1/2 feet off the ground.
Hummingbird nest right outside my bdrm slider. Got to watch from making nest to laying eggs, hatching, feeding & flying away…..AWESOME!
