Da out with the kids
Dad House Finch is out with two of his young chicks. The chicks are making a lot of noise yelling at Dad . He is very quite as they express their concerns.

At the Noms Conservation area, I found an orchard oriole nest with a bush in front of it. So, I could hide behind the bush and not disturb the nest activity, while photoing both the male and female orchard oriole bring food to the nest.
Smith Oaks Rookery
The phoebes made their nest on my house so I watched them easily each day. As you cn see, at Day 16, they were too big for the nest and fledged the next day.
Brandt’s cormorants make their nests on the side of the cliffs in La Jolla. It is possible to watch their activity from the sidewalk above the cliff. Here the parent is protecting the babies from larger birds flying over the nest.
I took a variety of photos from a Mama Robin feeding her young, to a hummingbird surveying his area.

A pair of Mourning Doves chose the top of the old alarm box to build a nest and hatch their young. This location is on the side of my house and is protected from the elements, and out of reach for most predators. Just not a lot of space.
I am very fortunate to have a pair of eastern screech owls nesting in my backyard. Using my shed as a blind I set up at night at 830pm to take some videos of mom coming in to feed the owlets.
Enjoy seeing the 2 owlets fed worms and grubs.
I observed this active little Chipping Sparrow for several minutes as he/she hopped around a large Tamarack tree in my yard. These trees are full of insects and nesting material, making them a prime habitat for several species of birds.

I had the amazing view of watching 2 eastern screech owlets from my backyard. I had watched the parents feeding the babies and next thing I knew they had fledged to the big tree in my yard.
What a thrill.

Nest is under back porch area out in the country.
These babies were found deep inside Battery Harker at 1896 Fort Mott. I guess mom thought if the fort was strong enough to protect the mouth of the Delaware River during war it was surely strong enough to protect her babies and their little Home Tweet Home. This nest was in a dark area in one of the little dugout pieces of wall that I think were used for a candles to light the path to the artillery.
Adult is sort of hidden in back of 2 young Cooper’s Hawks. One young is much bigger than other. Perhaps male to female difference. Seem to be getting close to fledging.
Recently I went on a vacation to Illinois to see a cousin’s wedding. During this stay, I have found many bird nests and these are some of the ones that I found.
Killdeer fledglings and unhatched egg in nest
The progress of our Mountain Bluebird nestbox so far this year. We want these birds around because aside from being beautiful, they eat a lot of mosquitos. Of the three boxes around our high altitude meadow only this box attracted a nesting pair of birds. The other two boxes remain empty.
We are 30 miles east of Lovell Wyoming at 8,990 feet in the Bighorn National forest.
This baby robin was one of three eggs to hatch but the only survivor. Now we’re praying for a successful fledge!
About a week old!
We discovered that a mountain bluebird family built their nest under our deck in a hole in the wall. The babies fledged this past week with 5 baby birds. The parents are still feeding them and staying with the family as they learn to feed themselves and fly.
Hungry bluebird nestlings
These three amigos, Eastern Bluebirds are sleeping in on a saturday morning, waiting for mom or dad to bring them mealworms for breakfast, Oh what a life.
Feeding was non-stop for the 5 babies in this nest the day before they all fledged.

The cowbird already fledged.
This barn swallows nest is above our front door which we never use. I have a perfect view without any worry of disturbing the babies. This porch is never used. I get to watch babies every year .

Nesting activity in a busy / crowded city
My Labrador Retriever kept pestering a Holly Bush next to the barn. After I investigated, I relized it was a Brown Thrasher nest with two eggs. I place a barrier (a metal garden vine stand) in front of the bush to keep the Lab from gaining access. The nest is approximately 4 feet above ground and easy access to the Lab. The adults returned to the nest after about an hour.

Mourning doves are nesting outside our kitchen door!
This is the second year in a row now that a house wren has chosen to have her babies in our “church” bird house/box. They are so precious and we are so blessed!
Found this yesterday 6/22/17 in a small wooden bird house box I have in my backyard, WHAT KIND of bird is this? I only saw a fleeting glimpse of mommy and thought maybe she was a wren (she looked like maybe a wren but I couldn’t see her tail well – the babies look so very black colored to me), the wooden house/box and hole to it are small.
