Western Bluebird chicks
Eastern Bluebird – male
This is the year of the 17 year Locust, cicada actually, here in Western Pennsylvania. This male Eastern Bluebird spent all day catching the cicadas on the ground and tearing off the soft abdomen part. He made many trips to the nest box with these little morsels.
Young Phoebes
6/12/19: 1st day the young Phoebes have left the nest & taken flight! Mama appeared to take them out in groups of 2-3!

House wren singing to it’s kids
While emptying my compost bucket this morning, I heard a very jubilant singing coming from a distant oak tree. I went to explore and found this little finch singing excitedly and being answered by many little fledgling voices. I think the adult was trying to coax the kids from their nest cavity.
Oriole nest
This is probably an Oriole nest. We have seen during the last 3 weeks Baltimore Oriole and – in a tree beside this nest – an Orchard Orilole.

Unidentified birds nest
this is hanging under a deck (one that you can walk under) – my window looks out under the deck and i have often seen birds flying underneath it so i went to see if there might be a nest .. and found this !
At first I would not assume that this was made by a bird, but because of the frequent sightings of them under the deck… i guess it would have to be. Also, have not seen the birds, only heard them chirping when they are near the nest.
I remember the same activity last summer… BUT … never saw a nest like this before.
Thanks, Wendy Goodrich

Unknown duck nest please IDENTIFY
We went on a hike and found the nest about 100 yards from a very small creek, we couldn’t Identity the species nesting. We also saw a Willow Flycatcher when they should be up north breeding, then we saw 4 baby Wilson Snipes about 2’ tall.
Tree Swallows Househunting
This tree swallow pair checked out 2 nest boxes on our property. They began adding material to this box, but ultimately chose the other one, which we are sharing on Nest Watch.

Out On a Limb
Out On a Limb. This baby Eastern Bluebird was hatched April 23, 2019 and fledged May 12, 2019. Here he is on a tree in my backyard, within 25 feet of where he was born and raised. He’s as cute as a button! Little does he know, there are 5 eggs in the nest box, so he will soon be meeting his new siblings.

Loggerhead Shrike Fledgling!
It’s really neat to watch the fledglings learning how to hunt on there own. Unlike the adults who hunt mostly from an elevated perch the fledglings spend more time on the ground searching for prey!

Black-capped Chickadee Nest
An unusual nest for a Black-capped Chickadee. Chickadees usually use moss to build their nests, but this one decided to re-use a Tree Swallow nest.
House Wren takes over Black-capped Chickadee box
Checked my box yesterday (Wed) after seeing a chickadee bringing nesting material inside on Tuesday. Looks like a House Wren was pretty active Wednesday morning!

Bluebirds raising 4 chicks
Repaired a discarded birdhouse and hung it in a tree in our backyard. The same day a bluebird couple discovered it and started building a nest.
I made two videos, this one is about feeding and successfully raising 4 chicks
Feathering the nest started near March 13 2019 and the fledglings flew away on April 5 2019

Wood thrush nest
This nest is located in a concord grape vineyard in western New York. The nest is built around some goldenrod stems, just off the ground. A small rusty brown colored bird with a white breast and brown spots flew out of the nest. My husband was weed whacking when he saw the nest and stopped. The photo was taken on May 26, 2019, and there were 4 eggs in the clutch.

Nest of Little Tern
The image was taken this morning from a charland of Padma River near Rajshahi, Bangladesh. The size of the charland about 1 sq.km. The whole charland has a lot of nests of six birds as Little Tern, Small Pratincole, Little-ringed Plover, River Lapwing, Indian Thick Knee and Blue-tailed Bee-eater. There is also a lot of chicks of different size of Little Tern, Small Pratincole and Little-ringed Plover and this is the Little Tern nest with newly hatched chick.

Mama Robin on the nest probably incubating eggs
Mama Robin has been sitting on the nest more frequently. She’s probably got eggs now but haven’t been able to check and don’t know if the ladder would reach that high. I would have to go really high up in order to take a picture of the eggs if she wasen’t on the nest and off feeding.

My Mom Took This Picture As A Souvenir From Mother’s Day 2019
This is in Indian Lake Park State Park, which is in Irwin, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mom’s never seen a Canadian Goose nest before the date this was taken and while coming across this nest for Nestwatch was the second time I have ever come across a Canadian Goose nest, this was her first time seeing a Canadian Goose nest. However, this nest was our first time seeing Canadian Goose eggs, and I bet you guys haven’t seen them either. (Brave woman to get that close). BTW, as we were leaving, the goose and gander came back and the goose mainly hissed at us.
PS It’s right next to a manmade fishing lake, three trees, and a busy footpath, and right across a playground that was used by humans in the majority of my visits thus far!

Robins nest went on top of Nesting Shelf and not in!
Robin pair decided to build on top of the nesting shelf. My dad thought they are a bigger bird and wouldn’t have enough room inside the shelf so that’s why they built the nest on top of the shelf. Well this is our first Robins nest. Hoping for success.
